U.S. Second Bureau Stamps
The United States Second Bureau series, designed in 1902 and first issued later that year, comprises fourteen denominations ranging from one cent to five dollars. The ornate designs were engraved by the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing and remained in use until they were superseded by the Washington‑Franklin issues in the early years of the twentieth century. Among the designs is the first regular U.S. stamp portraying a woman—the 8‑cent Martha Washington. Learn more about each denomination and delve into the history of this elegant series.
